OLEVEL ENGLISH

Our O-Level English Program consists of intensive practice in the Comprehension, Vocabulary and Essay sections and it includes time-saving strategies for improving reading speed.

The Vocabulary practices are set according to our assessment of the student’s proficiency level.  In any case, we assign the students questions at a level slightly more challenging than what he/she is used to.

We do not only teach the meaning of unfamiliar words, but focus on the actual and proper usage of the words in formal writing.

Our Comprehension practices include passages from magazine and newspaper articles, and other well-regarded literary sources. We will explain comprehension questions thoroughly and encourage students to identify them as inferential, content-based, or vocabulary-based questions.  This will help them avoid providing irrelevant answers, a very common mistake in the comprehension section.

Our Essay Sections usually start off with the teacher introducing the topic and explain in the question so students know exactly what is required of them.  During the brainstorming phase, everybody bandies around with varying ideas in response to the essay topic.  All ideas are accepted for discussion, no matter how ridiculous they may seem.  During this time, the teacher will often interject with hints and opinions of his own to aid each student in forming his/her own ideas. In addition, the structure of the essays are clearly explained.  Students often ask, “How can we come up with a more effective introduction/point/conclusion?” “What sort of examples can we use?”  Our teachers will be only too happy to assist with elaborating on which section of the essay to describe in more detail, or how to provide more convincing evidence.  

We want to give every student the best possible chance to do well for the O-Level English examination.  Feedback and grades are recorded, and problem areas are quickly brought up for review.  You can be assured that students will come away from this feeling better-equipped to handle the exam with confidence.

All new students need to take a 60-minute written test. The test results help us to recommend the best class for you.
